Usually average roof pitch is determined using the same roof length method. Roof pitch is defined as the number of feet the roof rises vertically for each 12 feet of horizontal measure. This measurement is best done on a bare roof because curled up roofing shingles will impair your measurement. Greek says one must keep rafter length in range of 1 9 to 1 7 th of span but as per roman style the standard dimensions are kept about 1 3 to 2 9 th of span with an angle of 23 to 24 degree.

Low slope roofs are from 0 to 3 12 in pitch. Divide the results by the number of 12 inch segments in your level. Close estimate of roof pitch ok for most designs. However it is regrettable that many installers usually ignore this requirement due to the desire for a quick installation process.

For example if you used a 24 inch level and your measurement was 12 inches the pitch in your roof is 6 in 12. Another widely used method is to follow the house s roof pitch on one side building the ridge off center then sloping down more drastically on the shorter side which will be closer to the house. So if your roof rises 4 inches for every 12 inches of horizontal length then the pitch of your roof is expressed as 4 12. The recommended minimum roof pitch for shingles is 2 12 or simply two units of vertical rise to every twelve units of horizontal span. This can be a nice look even when it is turned with the gable end to the house and the door is under the short pitch rather than a gable end. Some sources consider low slope to include 3 12 pitch roofs. A ratio is the most common way of expressing roof pitch or roof slope but degrees are also possible. Pitches of less than 2 12 are considered flat roofs even though they may be very slightly angled.
